I purchased the barn with the express intention of using it for the bunnies. It has two windows on both front and back as well as a Dutch door for good ventilation. It has been fully insulated and heated.

I use 24" x 36" cages from Bass Equipment. I really like their design and they are very prompt on shipping and easy to work with.

Notice in this photo that I use a Pro-B Feedsaver. These are great 'outside the cage' feeders. The screened bottom keeps the feed dust from accumulating in the feed tray and makes for a much cleaner cage.

My bunnies are constantly fed hay. I use an 'outside the cage' hay rack as well. This keeps the hay up high so the bunnies do not spoil the hay and gives them a bit of exercise to reach it. I highly recommend this method.

All bunnies like their water and should have a fresh supply at all times. I use a watering system and I REALLY like it. I use the Edstrom 3/16" tubing system components for the cage waters but have opted to design my own main delivery system. I noticed that when I used the 3/16 tubing throughout the system, some bunnies were not getting enough pressure to keep the water flowing well. I designed the 3/8" PVC pipe delivery system you can see in the top of the photo and tied it to a 5 gallon tank. This keeps a good supply of water to the cage tubes give extra volume to the water systems.

I decided not to tie into a main pressurized water pipe for a few reasons. If it should freeze I would have a real mess on my hands but more importantly I like to add vitamins and acid pak 4-way to the water to keep the heard healthy and well maintained. You will notice that the water in the tank looks a little yellow. That is the water soluble vitamins. I clean the entire system on a very regular basis.

I also heat the barn with a 10,000 btu propane heater. I admit that this may be spoiling the bunnies a bit but it is more for me than the bunnies. In the winter I maintain between 45 and 55 degrees. This is to keep the water system from freezing and the rabbit breeder (me) from freezing while I am tending the herd.

The heater is a vent free model that requires no electricity to operate. Although the barn does have electricity I thought it better to go fan free on the heater.

In truth bunnies like cold weather and can tolerate some very fringed temperatures. But as my herd are English Lops they can get frost bitten ears.
